Can you believe its already that time of year? The year is basically over and my mind is already in 2013 and with that comes my new years resolutions. Have you thought of yours? Your list should include the office so I’ve included 5 resolutions to make the office even better next year.

1. Update your Office Design

I know I mention updating your office space almost daily but after the New Year is the perfect time to pay attention to the design. The stress of the holidays will be over and you’ll have some space to breath and focus on making your office a better place. If you’re not ready to invest the time, effort and money into a complete office makeover, try editing your current office furniture instead. Keep in mind that the design of your office space does affect the way you and the entire team works. A happier workspace means happier employees which means an increased bottom line. If you’re responsible for just your cubicle then make it the best cubicle space you can think of. Just because the space is small doesn’t mean you can’t do a lot with it.

2. Celebrate Every Holiday

It can be tough for companies to throw large holiday parties but celebrating holidays throughout the year can bring the office together. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by bringing in some fun decorations and requiring everyone to wear green. Get the whole team involved and maybe have green flavored coffee for the day or for Easter an in-office Easter egg hunt. Having fun with the whole team will only strengthen your company and boost morale.

3. Get and Stay Organized

Probably something on everyone’s to-do list, getting and staying organized. Plan to go through with this resolution this year and do so with the help of an organizing buddy. It can be hard to do it yourself but if you and a friend hold yourself accountable, you have a better chance of going through with it. Being organized will not only help you work better but it will also help clear some of that mental clutter we all need help with.

4. Be a more Considerate “worker”

If you love the broccoli from your favorite Chinese restaurant but you know it stinks up the office, choose to eat it else ware. It’s not fair to your friends and fellow workers to endure certain things so try to make 2013 great for all. Make the extra effort to keep others in your mind during the work day, it will help make

5. Work Happy

The most important thing out of all these resolutions is to work happy. Work is such a big part of our lives (we spend more time working than we do anything else) so take the time and effort to make yourself happier while you work. The first 4 resolutions are a step in that direction but you need to make the conscious decision that you want to work happy in 2013 and thereafter.

Whether you plan on taking on just one of these resoluations or all 5, I hope that you at least consider them all. The New Year is a great way to get a fresh start and start doing the things you want to do, and working the way you want to work.

Happy New Year!
